Everyone tells you to
“Take the chance, make a move.
‘No’ is the worst they can say.”
But no is simple.
No is clean.
It ends the sentence.
It doesn’t echo in your head at 3am.
Worse things are said
in drawn-out sighs,
or in the silence of a look that says,
“You’re not worth the weight of my words.”
Worse can be
“I’m running late,” but never showing up,
or the words they speak to others,
after you’ve left the room.
They tell you to be brave,
but bravery sometimes means
walking away, your head held high,
your hope still bleeding,
with no answers at all.
My Broken Infinity
