Onward

Life doesn’t wait.

It runs, full-force,

a river with no dam;

an hourglass, stuck to the table,

sand falling whether you’re ready or not.

There’s no going back to yesterday,

no matter how much we hope or pray;

no rewinding to the words that were almost uttered,

or to the chances that were almost taken.

The sun won’t stop setting

because you need more light,

nor the stars in the sky fading

because you need more peace.

Time moves onward;

you can move with it, or stay still.

But the longer you wait,

the more moments you'll miss.

They may be small, go unnoticed,

but we all run out of moments, eventually.

Do not waste them.

Do not swallow your truth for others’ comfort.

Do not seek permission to be who you are.

Do not hold love hostage behind walls of fear.

Speak, risk, and love now.

Because regret cannot be carried lightly into the dark.
